Neurotransmitter patterns in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS)
نویسنده
چکیده
Results Review of the completed urinalyses revealed a trend towards elevated histamine, elevated norepinephrine and decreased serotonin in the AIS patients as compared to non-scoliotics. Since these neurotransmitters are typically expressed in specific cortical areas, this pattern of imbalance may manifest as a functional hemisphericity, causing asymmetrical efferent responses to peripheral, afferent muscular inputs, and altering firing thresholds in their respective pathways.

Evaluation of Patient Outcome and Satisfaction after Surgical Treatment of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Using Scoliosis Research Society-30
Background: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) may lead to physical and mental problems. It also can adversely affect patient satisfaction and the quality of life. In this study, we assessed the outcomes and satisfaction rate after surgical treatment of AIS using scoliosis research society-30 questionnaire (SRS-30). Methods: We enrolled 135 patients with AIS undergoing corrective surgery...

Background: Central nervous system function is dependent upon neurotransmitters to properly integrate midbrain and cortical function. Central nervous system dysfunction is thought to be a primary driver of AIS progression. Purpose: The goal of this study was to observe and analyze any patterns of imbalance in neurotransmitter status in patients with AIS. Methods: The charts of 31 AIS patients f...

Abstract Background: To evaluate proximal junctional segment changes in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis(AIS) the posterior spinal fusion and also instrumentation also and finding of probable risk factors, were all considered in this study. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed radiographs of 121 consecutive patients who underwent posterior spinal fusion for AIS from T3 or below, with...

متن کاملBrace treatment for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis – Protocols of the Canadian Spinal Deformity Study Group Surgeons
Introduction Rigid full-time braces are the most common non-surgical treatment for adolescents with moderate severity of scoliosis and further growth. The Scoliosis Research Society has established guidelines on which patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) should be treated with a brace. This study surveyed Canadian surgeons on their protocols for prescribing braces for adolescent ...
